Paisley’s iconic Town Hall was officially reopened with a unique musical celebration of the building’s history helping ring in a new era as of the finest entertainment venues in Scotland after a five-year refurbishment.
We were invited to contribute to its first performance since the transformation – a community-led showcase inspired by the restored chimes in the building’s clock tower. The newly-restored carillon (the instrument which controls the bells), now means the town hall chimes can again be programmed to play a range of tunes, and original compositions were requested from a variety of community groups.
Musician Yuri is a member of our All Nations Welcome Cafe, and regularly entertains us with some traditional songs on his guitar, so he was the perfect choice to represent us.
Following a session with Marie Collins at OneRen, he penned and performed a song of hope for Ukraine!
The restoration of the chimes was delivered with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland.
